Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

We offer comprehensive treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), combining therapy and medication to effectively manage symptoms. Therapy, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with exposure and response prevention (ERP), helps individuals confront their fears and reduce compulsive behaviors. Medications such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may also be prescribed to alleviate symptoms. Our goal is to empower individuals to regain control over their thoughts and behaviors, leading to improved quality of life.

WHAT IS OCD?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterized by recurring, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions). These obsessions and compulsions can consume a significant amount of time and cause distress, making it difficult for individuals to function in daily life.

Obsessions are intrusive and persistent thoughts, images, or urges that cause anxiety or distress. Common obsessions include fears of contamination, fears of harming oneself or others, concerns about symmetry or orderliness, or intrusive taboo thoughts.

Compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts that individuals feel driven to perform in response to their obsessions. These behaviors are aimed at reducing anxiety or preventing a feared outcome. Common compulsions include excessive hand washing, checking locks or appliances, counting, arranging items in a particular way, or seeking reassurance.

While everyone experiences intrusive thoughts or engages in repetitive behaviors from time to time, individuals with OCD are unable to control these thoughts and behaviors, leading to significant distress and impairment in daily functioning.

OCD is a chronic condition, but it is treatable with a combination of therapy, medication, and self-help strategies. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), particularly exposure and response prevention (ERP), is considered the most effective treatment for OCD. Medications such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or tricyclic antidepressants may also be prescribed to help alleviate symptoms.
